It’s always important for a filmmaker to know the target audience of their film. OTT has provided the scope to churn out alternative content and over the last few months, the distinction between content that works for OTT and theatres has become rather apparent. It must be said that team Jathi Ratnalu was clear that their film would work only in the theatres and the decision worked wonders for them.

The film, directed by Pitta Goda-fame maker Anudeep, released on Amazon Prime Video a couple of days ago and surprisingly, the reactions from viewers across social media haven’t been all that unanimous. Not many have appreciated the quality of humour and have opined that the story was found lacking in logic and sense. The silver lining in the crowd responses was the love for Brahmanandam in the courtroom sequences and the praise for Naveen Polishetty.

This reaction certainly proves that the success of a film is a combination of many factors – the medium, the timing, the promotions and the cast. Watching Jathi Ratnalu in theatre with many viewers and seeing the same film in the comfort of our homes are two different experiences and that’s the reason the responses have been contrasting.
