It was a few years ago that composer, singer A R Rahman expressed his interest in writing scripts and making films. The first among those films, scripted, composed and produced by the composer himself, to see the light of the day is 99 Songs. Directed by ad filmmaker Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, 99 Songs has been in the making for a long time. The film is all set to hit theatres on April 16 across Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages, the makers announced today.

The multiple award-winning musician is collaborating with Jio Studios to release it across theatres. 99 Songs features newcomers Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Vargas besides Manisha Koirala in lead roles. Though Rahman’s script for the film was considered to be vague and surreal initially, he was helped by the director Vishwesh in its execution after many months of discussions.
