Tollywood celebrities reacted strongly to the shocking honor killing of Pranya by his wife's father in Miryalaguda, Telangana. This made many wonder whether the filmmakers are drawing inspiration from the happenings in the society or the society getting inspired from what is being shown on the screen.

While the filmmakers claim that they are making films based on the true incidents, the criminals are saying they are getting influenced by the films. In Ram Charan's Rangasthalam, the plot revolved around honor killing. It is known that Ram Charan's brother Aadi Pinisetty gets killed for loving daughter of minister Prakash Raj.

In Bellamkonda Srinivas' Jaya Janaki Nayaka, Jagapathy Babu forces his daughter to commit suicide just because she loved a person inferior to his caste. In Balakrishna's Samara Simha Reddy, Jayaprakash Reddy stabs his own daughter Anjala Jhaveri, when she comes to seek his blessings.

Gopichand's Yagnam may not revolve around honor killing but lot of violence depicts the same. Tammareddy Bharadwaj's Kadapa Reddamma in 92, revolved around honor killing. There are many more such instances.

Filmmakers claim that they got inspiration from the real life horrendous honor killings. There may be some fact in it and in future too it may happen unless the society undergoes a sea change.

Even in Bollywood, Priyadarshan made a film Akrosh on honor killing. The Ajay Devgn, Akshay Khanna starrer though didn’t succeed at the box office, it connected well with the people.

Vishwanath's Saptapadi too revolved around honor killing. Though the films got good name, they didn’t provide profits. However the earlier mentioned films shook the box office.
