Kurnool, Oct 6: The actor-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam Party President K Chiranjeevi on Tuesday urged the  Central Government to declare flood fury in state as national calamity and extend funds generously.Talking to media persons after reviewing the flood situation and relief works taken up by government officials in Kurnool district, the film actor demanded an immediate assessment of damages by a parliamentary team.He said that relief measures on a war footing have to be undertaken and the State government must be provided with all the required help from the National Calamity Contingency Fund.He urged the state government to increase the ex-gratia amount paid to flood victims from Rs two lakh to Rs 5 lakhs.

As an immediate relief, he said that the state government should release Rs 5,000 to flood victims.Expressing serious concern over the loss of lives and property, he asked people to donate generously for the cause.He asked the party members to involve in relief activities and provide voluntary service in the affected areas.In the light of the threat from overflowing reservoirs, immediate steps had to be taken to evacuate the marooned people and animals in such places, he stated.
