Hyderabad, Oct 2: There is no threat to the Srisailam Dam as the Krishna river was receiving massive inflow of 10 lakh cusecs from upstream following heavy rainfall in local catchment areas, stated the Chief Minister K Rosaiah.Talking to media persons on Friday after convening an emergency meeting with Disaster Management Authorities and District Collectors the situation arising out of heavy rains and floods, the Chief Minister stated that all the 12 flood gates of Srisailam Dam were opened on Thursday morning to release the incoming flood.He said that the current flood has been mostly contributed by the Tungabhadra and Handri, the tributaries of Krishna, which are in spate.He said all the projects across the Krishna River—Srisailam,Nagarjunasagar, Jurala and Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada are almost full and all flood gates were opened following heavy inflow of water.He directed the officials to launch relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of Kurnool and Mahabubnagar districts on a war-footing.

He said that there was no dearth of funds for taking up relief works in flood-hit areas.He said that the review meetings would be conducted for every half-an-hour to take the stock of situation.He said the government has pressed four army helicopters to help in rescue operations. But inclement weather forced them not to take up operations.The government has already received two helicopters from Bangalore and it has requested the Defence Ministry to send an Aircraft to help in relief operations, he explained.The Chief Minister has deputed Agriculture Minister Raghuveera Reddy to review the flood situation in Kurnool district.He asked the administrative machinery of the concerned districts to keep round-the-clock vigil and provide prompt relief to the affected people.
