Annu Kapoor Questions Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana And Casting Choices

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has again criticized director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana. In a Zoom interview, he questioned casting Sai Pallavi as Sita and said the film will only upgrade Ramanand Sagar’s version with better technology and scale. He also claimed he doesn’t know who Tiwari is or follow films.
Kapoor argued that Sita is worshipped as a mother and Ram as Lord Narayan’s avatar in India. He called the casting questionable for such revered roles. This is not the first time he has made controversial remarks. In 2022 he dismissed Aamir Khan, and in 2024 he commented on Kangana Ranaut’s airport incident.
Kapoor has opposed Tiwari’s Ramayana since its 2023 announcement. Earlier he told Aaj Tak that Tiwari had no credentials and accused him of insulting Hindu beliefs. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, it is one of India’s costliest projects with a reported ₹4,000 crore budget. The epic will release in two parts on Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027, aiming for a global theatrical experience with VFX.
