Diljit Dosanjh’s film Satluj, earlier titled Punjab '95, released on ZEE5 on Friday without cuts. The biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra was pulled in India just two days later. ZEE5 cited “current developments” and said it will work to restore the film soon.

The movie faced censorship hurdles for over three years. CBFC reportedly demanded 127 cuts. It missed a TIFF 2023 premiere and a Feb 2025 global release. Based on Khalra’s probe into 1984-1994 cremations in Punjab, the case led to convictions and later life sentences for four police officers.

Directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures, Satluj stars Diljit as Khalra, plus Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. Diljit called it a story of courage and humanity, and a tribute to Khalra’s sacrifice for truth and justice.

ZEE5 thanked viewers for overwhelming support and said it stands by the film’s creative vision. The platform confirmed the version streamed had no cuts. Trehan also stated the intent was honest storytelling. Fans now await updates on when Satluj will return to streaming in India.
