Niharika Konidela’s production Rakasa is finally heading to OTT after a solid run in theatres. The film, led by Sangeeth Shobhan and Nayan Sarika, will start streaming on Netflix from May 1. Netflix has already added Rakasa to its “New & Hot” section, confirming the date and sparking buzz across social media. For those who missed it on the big screen, this is the perfect chance to catch the film from your couch.
Rakasa isn’t just coming in Telugu. Netflix is releasing it in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam too. That five language rollout means the film can tap into audiences across India, not just the Telugu states. The multi-language push lines up with how Netflix has been promoting South Indian films lately, give them a pan-India window and let word of mouth do the rest.
Made on a modest budget of around ₹15 crore, Rakasa surprised many by pulling in roughly ₹27 crore gross at the box office. Theatrical word of mouth was strong, especially for Sangeeth Shobhan’s performance and the film’s comedy with tight screenplay. The film held well even in its third week, which is rare for mid-budget movies.
Now, with the OTT release, the team is betting on a second wave of viewership. With its box office win already in the bag, Rakasa is now set to test its pull on streaming. If the theatre response is anything to go by, Rakasa could easily become one of Netflix India’s most-watched Telugu films this May.
