Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla is turning out to be a solid performer at the box office. The supernatural comedy-thriller opened with a bang, thanks to paid previews on April 16 that pulled in ₹3.75 crore. Day 1 was even better at ₹12.25 crore net, and by Day 2 the numbers shot up to ₹19 crore as family audiences started loving the word-of-mouth. The film peaked on Day 3 with a massive ₹23 crore single-day haul, clearly the Sunday crowd showed up in big numbers.
Like most films, Monday saw a sharp 70.7% drop, but the recovery was quick. Day 5 bounced back with ₹8 crore, up 18.5%, and Day 6 added another ₹6.15 crore. The hold is better than many expected for a horror-comedy. On Day 7, Bhooth Bangla was playing across 10,506 shows in India and collected around ₹5.15 crore net. That takes the total domestic net to ₹84.05 crore and the India gross to ₹100 crore.
Overseas has also picked up, adding another ₹2 crore recently. With that, the worldwide gross now stands at ₹140 crore. Trade experts on X are calling it a “clean hit,” especially since the film was made on a controlled budget. The family audience and Priyadarshan’s brand of comedy are working big time. BookMyShow is still showing strong occupancy in tier-2 cities.
Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla released on April 17 after facing multiple delays. The story follows Arjun Acharya, played by Akshay Kumar, who returns from London to his ancestral home in Mangalpur only to find it haunted. The film mixes scares with Priyadarshan’s trademark humor. Along with Akshay, the cast has Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, Mithila Palkar, and the late Asrani in one of his final roles. Fans have been posting clips of Asrani’s scenes, calling them emotional and hilarious at the same time. Instagram reels with Akshay’s comic timing in the film are also trending.
