The long wait for Dhruva Natchathiram might finally be over or not. Gautham Vasudev Menon’s spy thriller starring Chiyaan Vikram has been stuck for years, and all eyes are now on the Madras High Court. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy has finished hearing both sides and will pass the final order on April 24, 2026. This verdict will decide if the film can finally head to theatres after nearly a decade of delays. Fans on X and Instagram have been trending #DhruvaNatchathiramVerdict, hoping this time GVM’s passion project sees the light of day.
The trouble started with money. Investors K. Punniamoorthy and K. Premkumar went to court in 2023 asking to block the release until their dues were cleared. Their claim goes back to a 2016 theatrical distribution deal tied to a different project involving Madan Pandy of Escape Artists Motion Pictures. That case led to arbitration and an interim injunction that stopped the release just a day before its planned November 24, 2023 premiere.
GVM had even posted then that the team was “doing everything within our power and beyond” to get the film out. The shoot actually began way back in 2017, faced COVID delays, wrapped only in 2023, and then got stuck in legal and financial hurdles again. The cast is stacked, Vikram leads as John, with Simran, Ritu Varma, Aishwarya Rajesh, Vinayakan, Parthiban, and Radhika Sarathkumar in key roles.
The film is also part of the same universe as GVM’s Joshua: Imai Pol Kaakha which released in March 2024. Industry insiders say Dhruva Natchathiram is a sleek, globe-trotting spy action thriller with signature GVM style, but the financial mess has kept it in cans. Senior counsel Srinath Sridevan argued for the investors, while A. Abdul Hameed appeared for Menon during the latest hearings. With the verdict hours away, fans and trade circles are anxious but hopeful.
