Peddi Controversy Grows Over Tribal Portrayal

Ram Charan starrer Peddi is still doing steady business at the box office, but the film has landed in new trouble. Tribal groups and Adivasi organizations have raised strong objections about how tribal communities are shown in the movie. They say some scenes and dialogues spread wrong stereotypes and hurt the sentiments of tribal people.
A key scene where the hero’s actions are linked to his lack of education and tribal background has become the main point of criticism. Members from several tribal groups have filed complaints with the District Collector and Superintendent of Police in Vizianagaram. They are asking the makers to remove the scenes and take corrective action. Some groups have also questioned the censor board for clearing such content without cuts.
This is not the first time Peddi has faced backlash. Earlier the film was criticized for the way Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiyamma was shown. Many women’s groups and social media users said the character looked too glamorous and was objectified. After the criticism, director Buchi Babu Sana gave a public apology and said some changes were made in the theater version to reduce the issue.
Tribal leaders are now demanding strict action if the scenes are not removed. Some organizations have asked for legal steps under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act against the director, Mythri Movie Makers, and even the Censor Board members if they do not act. The film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, also stars Janhvi Kapoor and has music by AR Rahman.
