Tollywood a high-risk industry

Tollywood is becoming more “hit-driven” than ever. If we had a look from a couple of years the success rate of Tollywood is in between 5 to 15 percent. Usually Tollywood produces 200–300 films per year Out of these, only 10–20 films become clean hits or we can say it is profitable.

Looking at recent box office tracking only a small fraction get verdicts like Hit or Super Hit many films end up as Flop or Average.  Especially 2025 saw huge losses (₹1000 crore) due to many failures. Even big-budget films are not guaranteed success anymore.

In 2025 nearly 300 films were released in that barely 18 films are considered Hits.  After the success of big pan-India films like RRR and Pushpa: The Rise, producers assumed Bigger budget = bigger success”. But in 2025 Big-budget films underperformed near box office; only some Small films with good content worked better.

Why success rate is low

Weak scripts and rushed production

Overdependence on star power

High budgets - harder to recover

Audience Behaviour Changed

Audiences are now becoming selective. They are Skipping mediocre films in theatres and are willing to watch it on OTT after a 4 weeks wait. The change of Audience behaviour makes Opening weekend became everything even a slight Bad word-of-mouth making films instant collapse near box office.
