The Madras High Court has dismissed actor Tamannaah Bhatia’s appeal seeking ₹1 crore compensation from Power Soaps Limited over the alleged unauthorized use of her images. On Thursday, a division bench comprising Justices P Velmurugan and K Govindarajan Thilakavadi upheld an earlier ruling that rejected her claims due to lack of credible evidence, according to Bar and Bench. The court found no merit in the actor’s appeal and concluded that Tamannaah Bhatia failed to prove her case against Power Soaps.

The legal dispute goes back to 2008 when Tamannaah Bhatia signed an endorsement deal with Power Soaps Limited. The contract permitted the company to use her photos for one year, until October 2009. However, Bhatia alleged that Power Soaps continued using her images on product wrappers and in advertisements in 2010 and 2011 without her consent. She claimed this unauthorized usage violated their agreement and damaged her professional prospects, as she was negotiating with competing brands at the time.

Tamannaah Bhatia sought ₹1 crore in damages and a permanent injunction to stop the company from further use of her images. She argued that the unauthorized association with Power Soaps Limited hurt her commercial value. However, the court found her evidence, which included product wrappers, a purchase document, and certain internet listings, unreliable and insufficient to prove that Power Soaps used her images after the contract expired in October 2009.

Dissatisfied with the initial verdict, Tamannaah Bhatia filed an appeal before the Division Bench of the Madras High Court. After re-examining the single judge’s findings and reviewing the records, the bench found no reason to interfere with the earlier ruling. The Madras High Court agreed that Tamannaah Bhatia had not established that Power Soaps Limited used her images beyond the agreed contractual period, leading to the dismissal of the ₹1 crore compensation claim.
