Aamir Khan Opens Up About Alcohol Addiction

Bollywood star Aamir Khan has revealed he became addicted to alcohol after his divorce from first wife Reena Dutta. The actor said he drank a full bottle every night for nearly one and a half years. In a recent interview, Aamir Khan explained the severe mental anguish he faced during the separation. He shared that the loneliness and pain after Reena left became the most difficult phase of his life, pushing him toward alcohol as a way to cope.  

Aamir clarified that he was never addicted to alcohol before the divorce. He said he only drank once or twice if a film scene required it. But after Reena Dutta left, he could not handle the emotional pain and turned to the alcohol at home that night. The habit continued, and Aamir drank a full bottle every night for about 18 months. He admitted that the anguish from the breakup led directly to the addiction.  

The actor soon realized the habit was damaging his life. Aamir Khan said he thought about his future and the future of his children, Junaid Khan and Aira Khan, if he continued drinking. He decided to quit alcohol completely for the sake of his kids and his career. Since making that decision, Aamir has not touched alcohol again.  

Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta’s love story began as neighbors and led to marriage in 1986. They have two children, Junaid Khan and Aira Khan. The couple divorced in 2002 after 19 years together due to differences, but they continue to respect each other and remain friends. Aamir later married Kiran Rao in 2005 and separated from her in 2021. Last year, on his 60th birthday, Aamir introduced Bengaluru-based stylist Gauri Spratt as his girlfriend.
