The controversy surrounds his imitation of a scene from Rishab Shetty's Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, where he referred to Chamundi Daiva as a "female ghost" during an event at the Goa International Film Festival.
The comment sparked widespread criticism, prompting the Bengaluru police to file an FIR against Ranveer Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. In response, the actor approached the Karnataka High Court seeking dismissal of the FIR. His legal team informed the court that he will file a formal affidavit offering an unconditional apology on April 10, 2026, and visit the Chamundi Hill Temple in Mysuru to demonstrate genuine remorse.
The Karnataka High Court emphasized the importance of public figures exercising responsibility and accountability, noting that an online apology was insufficient.
