James Cameron, the renowned director of Titanic and Avatar films including latest Avatar: Fire And Ash, and many Iconic films has revealed that he has moved to New Zealand permanently with his family. The decision was influenced by the country's "sanity" and scientific approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, which he shared on a recent episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger.
Cameron's connection with New Zealand began in 1994, when he first visited the country. He recalled falling in love with the place and its people, saying, "I made myself a promise. I'm going to come live here someday." His fascination with the country only grew stronger, and he eventually decided to make the move with his wife, Suzy Amis, and their children.
The COVID-19 pandemic played a significant role in Cameron's decision. He praised New Zealand's approach to the pandemic, citing its high vaccination rate and the population's willingness to work together. In contrast, he expressed frustration with the situation in the United States, highlighting the differences in approach and attitude.
Cameron, who has been married four times and has children from different relationships, seems to have found a new sense of contentment in New Zealand. He was granted New Zealand citizenship in August 2025, solidifying his commitment to his new home.
