Kamal Haasan, actor-politician and leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), has praised Sivakarthikeyan's film Parasakthi, calling it a powerful "war drum" for the DMK-MNM alliance in the upcoming Tamil Nadu state elections. In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Haasan expressed his desire for the film's success, terming it a "victorious crown" for the DMK. He commended director Sudha Kongara's narrative and Sivakarthikeyan's dedication to the project.
Kamal Haasan's praise comes amidst controversy surrounding the film's certification, with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) initially demanding cuts. He has now called for reforms in the certification process, emphasizing transparency and accountability. Haasan stressed that filmmaking is a collective effort, urging the industry to unite for reform and engage with government institutions to safeguard creative freedom.
Kamal Haasan's demand for reforms follows similar issues with Vijay's Jana Nayagan. He emphasized protecting artistic freedom and upholding constitutional values, calling for a review of certification processes with defined timelines. Haasan urged the industry to engage constructively with government institutions, saying such reform will strengthen India's democratic institutions.
Director Pa Ranjith also expressed concern over censor-related issues, condemning regressive approaches suppressing dissenting voices. The Madras High Court has stayed a single judge's order granting a U/A 16+ certificate to Jana Nayagan, with the next hearing on January 21.
