Following the success of Shiva’s 4K re-release, another Nagarjuna cult classic is making a comeback. Geetanjali, a timeless Telugu love story directed by Mani Ratnam, is getting ready for a captivating re-release in stunning 4K. Starring Nagarjuna and Girija Shettar, this film remains an all-time favourite, etching its place in the hearts of audiences.

Geetanjali (1989), produced by C. Padmaja under Bhagyalakshmi Enterprises, was Mani Ratnam’s maiden Telugu film and a box-office sensation. Ilaiyaraaja’s soulful score, Oh Priya Priya, Jagada Jagada, and the evergreen Aamani Paadave still enchants music lovers. The tragic love story showcases Nagarjuna’s memorable performance as a spirited young man battling terminal cancer, winning over Girija’s innocence and charm.

Producer Burle Sivaprasad of Sri Padmini Cinemas holds the worldwide re-release rights (excluding Chennai) and is upgrading it to 4K. “It’s a unique film that today’s audience should experience on the big screen,” says Sivaprasad. The restoration is underway, blending nostalgia with modern visuals.

Nagarjuna and Girija Shettar’s chemistry, coupled with Mani Ratnam’s storytelling and Ilaiyaraaja’s music, makes Geetanjali a treasure worth revisiting. It’s a poignant tale of love, optimism, and resilience that transcends time. No official date yet, but get ready to relive this classic on the big screen.
