Kamal Haasan speakinng at the recent art and literature festival, heaped praises on legendary actress Savitri. He said she is more talented than other male directors and added that male chauvinism supressed her.
He said "She was pretending to be silent. That was yet another role she was fulfilling in a male-dominated society." Savitri made her directorial debut with Papalu, featuring Jaggayya, Jamuna, and Sowcar Janaki. She also helmed the Tamil film Kuzhanthai Ullam, a remake of Chinnari Papalu, which starred Gemini Ganesan, Vanisri, and Sowcar Janaki.
Kamal Haasan starred in Savitri's Kalathur Kannamma, for which he received the President's Gold Medal award at the age of six.Savitri is hailed as as the "Queen of Telugu cinema" and is renowned as Mahanati in Telugu and Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil.
Kamal Haasan recently became Rajya Sabha MP when his MNP supported DMK in Tamil Nadu and in return DMK sent him to Rajya Sabha.
