Every friday, Tollywood witness the release of many films at the box office and almost all the critics on print and electronic media and also general public opinion at the theatres use the word Lag. People come up with the comments like first half was fine, second half lag spoiled ir or vice versa.

In the earlier days, people used to highlight the minus points in the films like bad story, comedy didnot click etc. Now almost all are using the word lag. What does lag stands for. Are the directors really dragging the film or people are becoming so impatient that even one minute means lag for them.

The reason is because of the attention span with the evolution of smartphones. People are getting influenced by instagram reels and youtube shorts and so all are used to jokes and other emotions in ust 30 seconds and so even on the big screen they are expecting the same magic. This is making people feel that the directors are dragging the film. They fail to realise that for emotions to reach new heights connecting chords with the viewers, director should establish it in an impactful manner in a slow and steady manner and this is known as slow burn. But it is becoming difficult for the makers to give the same feel to the gen G viewers who are used to the fast paced world.

Even in hit films, people spoke about slow pace and lag. One cannot blame movie lovers alone for this situation. Some directors in the name of detailing are including unnecessary scenes and this is playing the spilsport. Scenes that add no value to take the story forward, slow motion shots for hero elevation, unnecessary songs fall under this category. When the screenplay is not gripping viewers will get diverted and even that five minute scene looks like five hours. There neednot be twists and fights in all the scenes but silence speaks sometimes more powerfully. The moment people turn to their mobiles in the theatres, it shows that the directors failed with the story and screenplay. If this happens, in future only action and thriller films may survive at the box ffice and family and sentiment dramas may become extinct. Many filmmakers are doing away with emotional scenes due to this fear and this is turning film into soulless. That is why now a days films are failing to get registered in the minds of the people. Directors should come up with racy screenplay without killing the emotions and viewers also should reduce their expectations for more fast paced films. Lag is only in the minds of the people who are watching the film.

There should be change in the mindset of the movie lovers and also in the filmmaking style to give memorable viewing experience.
