The second installment of Nitesh Tiwari’s grand adaptation, Ramayana, is slated to start principal photography in January 2026, after being pushed back from an original August 2025 date. Production insiders confirm the delay was needed to accommodate the packed schedules of the lead trio, Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sunny Deol whose conflicting commitments had created a bottleneck.

Ranbir Kapoor is currently tied up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War in Mumbai, with a 20‑day shoot in Italy scheduled for December. Yash, meanwhile, is deep into Geetu Mohandas’s Toxic, due for release on 19 March 2026, and will not join the Ramayana set until his portion wraps.

Adding to the challenge, Sunny Deol’s family situation has taken priority, the actor, who portrays Lord Hanuman, is caring for his father Dharmendra, who recently faced a health scare, and will rejoin the shoot once his home front stabilizes.

Despite the setbacks, pre‑production is moving ahead at full speed. Teams are finalizing costume designs, constructing massive sets, and coordinating extensive VFX pipelines to ensure a seamless start once filming commences. The first part of the two‑part epic has already been completed and is positioned for a Diwali 2026 release, with the sequel expected to hit theaters in 2027.
