Independent singer Janhavi Yerram has entered the spotlight after her Telugu track “Amma Paata” crossed 100 million views on YouTube, joining a small list of non-film songs that have achieved the milestone in the regional category.

The song, composed during the COVID-19 lockdown, was written by Mittapalli Surender and initially gained moderate traction before gradually reaching a wider audience. The track’s theme around the mother–child bond has been cited as a key reason for its longevity and continued engagement across streaming platforms.

A small event was held in Hyderabad to acknowledge the milestone. Musicians and content creators who attended said the achievement highlights the growing reach of independent artists in the Telugu music space.

Janhavi, who trained in Hindustani classical music, said the milestone reflects the audience’s connection to the sentiment behind the composition.

“People relate to the simplicity of the tune and the honesty of the lyrics. I’m glad the song found a place in so many homes,” she said.

Apart from “Amma Paata,” Janhavi has worked on devotional and contemporary tracks in multiple languages. She is currently preparing new independent releases and exploring collaborations with regional composers.

Music professionals say that the success of independent songs like “Amma Paata” signals a shift in how audiences discover music, with digital platforms giving emerging voices greater visibility.
