Ram Gopal Varma’s iconic Telugu film Shiva (1989), which pioneered a new direction in Indian cinema, is returning to theatres on November 14, 2025. The cult classic, starring King Nagarjuna and directed by Varma, will be showcased in 4K format with Dolby Atmos sound, offering audiences an immersive experience. The re‑release coincides with Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s 101st birthday, adding a nostalgic milestone to the event.

Megastar Chiranjeevi shared a heartfelt video recalling the film’s revolutionary impact. “Shiva is not a film… it is a revolution. It changed the direction of Telugu cinema. I felt then that Ram Gopal Varma was the future of Telugu cinema. Nagarjuna acted wonderfully. Hats off to the entire team!” he said. His emotional tribute sparked widespread attention across social media platforms.

Responding to Chiranjeevi’s praise, Ram Gopal Varma posted on X (Twitter), “Thank you Chiranjeevi garu. If I have ever hurt you unintentionally, I sincerely apologize. Thank you for your generous heart.” The apology quickly trended, highlighting the closure of past differences. Earlier, Varma had made controversial remarks about the Mega family and had abandoned a joint project with Chiranjeevi titled Jagadekaveerudu as he got Bollywood project with Sanjay Dutt titled Dauf, leading to lingering tension.

The re‑release of Shiva has also sparked excitement from other industry figures. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and actor Naga Chaitanya praised the film, while Chiranjeevi’s upcoming project Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu with Nayanthara, directed by Anil Ravipudi and narrated by Venkatesh Daggubati, is slated for Sankranthi 2026, keeping fans eagerly awaiting both cinematic milestones.
