Thamma, part of Maddok Films' horror cinematic universe is releasing today on 21 October 2025. The film stars Ayushman Khurrana ,National Crush Rashmika Mandanna in the lead under the direction of Aditya Sarpotdar. Previously Rashmika Mandanna drove all crazy with her performances and seductive looks in Pushpa 2, Animal and Chhaava. Now she is entering in to horror cinematic universe with thamma. The film's Telugu version has been released and no one even knew about the Telugu version release and if Telugu version release was planned, wonder why the makers didnot promote the film's Telugu version. Had the makers promoted the Telugu version, people would have come to theatres banking on Rashmika Mandanna's craze. Anyway, Let us see what Thamma offered to movie lovers and how it fared at the box office.
Thamma story revolves around humans, betals and yakhshasans and where the battle for supremacy in the backdrop of love story leads to.
Alok Goel (Ayushmann Khurrana) who is a historian/ journalist goes to a jungle along with his friends. He gets attacked by a bear and is saved by a beautiful girl Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna).
Even as he gets attracted to Tadaka, he becomes witness to even more shocking developments. Where this leads to, what is the dark secret of Alok, Tadaka and what role Yakshashan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), Elvis Karim Prabhakar (Sathyaraj), play form the rest of the thrilling developments.
Ayushmann Khurrana performed well in his role. He showed good emotions and expressions and impressed with his screen presence and dialogue delivery. He created humour and did well as a innocent lover. He showed good transformation and variation according to his role.
Rashmika Mandanna looked good on screen. She got a different kind of role and did full justice. She looked gorgeous on the screen and expressed herself quite aptly.
Paresh Rawal impressed with his hilarious antics in the role of the protagonist's father. Geeta Aggarwal is good in the role of the mother. Both performed well in a natural and realistic manner.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his presence felt in the role of Yakshasan. Sathyaraj is good in his role.
Norah Fatehi and Malaika Arora sizzled red hot in the special songs. Amar Kaushik also appeared in the special song. Varun Dhawan and Aneet Padda thrilled in the cameos.
Thamma story is Niren Bhatt, Suresh Mathew and Arun Falara and is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. He came up with the love story in the backdrop of horror elements. He stars the narration in a slow and steady manner establishing the various characters. The first half after a slow start goes at a steady pace with few hilarious scenes involving Paresh Rawal. The mystery involving Ayushman Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna is kept intact and first half ends on a decent note.
The second half turns more serious and the so called horror elements takes centrestage with the lead to the main story and the conflict. Few songs and the scenes ended up dragging the pace of the narration and tested the patience of the viewers. Nawazuddin Siddique's role who was the antagonist instead of showing power, turned out to be a mere caricature and weak character. The climax is dragged and ended on a predictable not with the lead to the next part.
The story reminds one of the hit films like Lokah-Chapter 1 which featured Kalyani Priyadarshan and also the previous horror films of Maddock like Stree, Stree 2 and Bhediya where the protagonist will be shocked to find the secret of the female whom he loves dearly. There is nothing much in the story though the concept looks interesting.
While the first half is rushed , the second half is dragged and the cameos instead of adding value, bogged down the narration. The romantic track and the chemistry didnot make an impact and the horror elements failed to thrill.
Director failed to comeup with interesting and exciting narration and he failed with his screenplay and direction to come up with more impactful twists and turns. The so called emotions also looked forced and artificial bringing down the intensity levels.
The music of Sachin–Jigar is good. The couple of songs are situational and shot in an appealing manner. The background score tuned elevated the scenes making a good impact.
Hemanti Sarkar's ending is quite decent. There are not many drags in the film. Dialogues are interesting and hilarious and in sync with the storyline.
The Cinematography of Saurabh Goswami turned the film colourful. He showed the scenes in a good way making an impact on viewers taking them into the story.
Production values are good. Maddok Films left no stone unturned to come with a quality output on the silver screen.
Altogether, Thamma turns out to be a below average horror entertainer. Ayushman Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna came up with spirited performances and director Aditya Sarpotdar came up with an half baked story. The first half sails through at an even pace with good dose of humor. The second half humour dips and dragged scenes brings down the intensity levels. Thamma turned out to be the weakest as the director set his sights on the next part rather than concentrate on coming up with concrete story. More fine-tuning of the story and the script and racy screenplay would have added value to the final outcome. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2 rating for Thamma.
