Vairamuthu controversial comments on Lord Ram. Vairamuthu is not only popular for his captivating, touching lyrics for the songs in the films but also for his comments which always lands him in trouble.

Recently he made shocking comments on Lord Ram and this triggered a huge controversy. Vairamuthu citing Kamba Ramayana said “Losing Sita, Raman has lost his mind. Someone who has lost his mind committing a crime is not considered a crime as per Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 84 of the IPC states that an offence committed by a person who is insane cannot be considered a crime. I don’t know if Kambar knew the IPC but he knew the society.”

He added that in this sense, Ram was “an accused who was acquitted,” forgiven, and became a human, while Kamban “became God.”

Vairamuthu's close aides dismiss controversy saying "This was a literary interpretation, not a religious discourse or a political speech," they said, adding that with a "preset anti-Vairamuthu mindset, everything he says is being slammed."

"He referred to the literary criticism on the episode where Ram killed Vaali from hiding," they said.

BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu however fired on Vairamuthu and also TN CM Stalin for staying silent.
