Reason behing Kerala Story success and Goat Life snub at the national awards. The announcement of National Awards always stir one or the other controversy. This time, many are shocked at why Prithviraj Sukumaran's Goat Life got snubbed for the best actor award vis a vis Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan and why the controversial film The Kerala Story on two awards.

Pradeep Nair, pointed out Jury chairperson Ashutosh Gowarikar for the choices. He said  “Jury Chairperson Ashutosh Gowariker had seen the movie at a previous film festival in Goa and had serious concerns about the film’s adaptation and execution. Gowariker and others also felt the adaptation lacked naturality and the performances didn’t feel authentic.”

Ashutosh Gowariker. Speaking about the jury's decision, said, "One is the cinematography award. The cinematography in The Kerala Story was very stark and realistic. It didn't ever try to overpower the narrative; the images were created within the realm of things. So, we applauded that."

 Pradeep Nair, the sole Malayali representative on the National Film Awards jury, raised objections to 'The Kerala Story' being picked for Best Direction. "As a Malayali on the panel, I raised serious objections. I questioned how a film that defames a state like Kerala and serves as propaganda could be considered a national honour. I even conveyed my concerns directly to the jury chairperson," he said.

He added  other members on the jury "argued that even if the film was controversial, it tacked a relevant social issue."
