Adivi Sesh’s action thriller Dacoit is ready for its digital premiere. After a decent run in theatres, the film will stream on Prime Video from May 8 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. The movie released in cinemas on April 10 and got mixed reviews, but it still pulled in solid numbers thanks to Sesh’s strong following. A centers like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and overseas markets did really well for the film. B and C centers were slower, but the makers stepped in and compensated distributors in a few regions, which gave some relief to exhibitors.
Made on a budget of around 35 crore, Dacoit managed to cross 50 crore gross worldwide during its theatrical run. That makes it Adivi Sesh’s second film to enter the 50 crore club after Major. The overseas share was a big contributor, especially in the US where Sesh has a loyal base. The OTT rights were reportedly sold to Prime Video for around 22 crore, which is a strong deal for a mid-range action drama.
The story is a revenge driven heist drama directed by Shaneil Deo. Adivi Sesh plays Haridas, a man who spends 13 years in jail after being betrayed by his lover Saraswati, played by Mrunal Thakur. Once he breaks out, he wants revenge but ends up teaming with her for a high stakes robbery. The film’s highlights are Sesh’s intense performance, the stylish action blocks, and the tense cat and mouse chemistry between the leads. The background score by Smaran and the gritty visuals also got praise.
With the theatrical run done, all eyes are now on how Dacoit performs on OTT. Given Sesh’s track record with digital audiences after Evaru, Major and HIT 2, expectations are high. The May 8 release means families can watch it over the weekend, and early buzz suggests it could trend in the top 10 on Prime Video India quickly.
