Dhanush has finally cleared the air on all those directing rumors. At the recent Kara event, the actor-director put a full stop to the buzz that he was about to start a female-centric film with Mrunal Thakur. Fans were excited, Kollywood pages were reporting it as “almost confirmed,” and the chatter peaked earlier this month. But Dhanush made it clear direction isn’t on his list right now. He’s got a packed slate as an actor, and that’s where his full focus is.
Dhanush revealed that three directors are already waiting with bound scripts. First up, he has to wrap his ongoing film with Amaran director Rajkumar Periyasamy. After that, he moves to a project with Tamilarasan Pachamuthu, and then a much-talked-about film with Mari Selvaraj. And yes, he didn’t forget Vada Chennai 2, he confirmed the sequel is still very much in his plans and he wants to finish it as part of this acting run.
Addressing the direction talk, Dhanush said it’ll take him a few years to finish these acting commitments. Only after that will he sit down and think about his next directorial. That basically rules out the Mrunal Thakur film anytime soon. The rumor started after a few Telugu and Tamil portals claimed Dhanush was impressed with a script and wanted Mrunal as the lead. But for now, he’s made his priorities clear, complete the films he’s signed, do justice to those characters, and then pick up the megaphone again.
With Kara gearing up for release and multiple projects lined up, Dhanush’s calendar is locked for the next 2-3 years. Fans may have to wait a bit longer to see “Director Dhanush” back in action, but his acting lineup is strong enough to keep everyone hooked. The message is simple, no break, no shift, just back-to-back films as an actor. And honestly, with directors like Mari Selvaraj and Rajkumar Periyasamy in the mix, nobody’s complaining.
