The trailer for Dhanush’s action drama Kara is finally out, and it looks intense. Directed by Vignesh Raja, who made a strong debut with Por Thozhil in 2022, Kara hits theatres on April 30. The film stars Dhanush as Karasaami aka Kara, a reformed robber forced back into crime because of a brutal fuel crisis. Mamitha Baiju plays the female lead Selli, and the cast also includes Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, and Suraj Venjaramoodu as cop Bharathan. National Award winner MS Bhaskar is also part of the film, though his role is still under wraps.
The Kara trailer opens with a Doordarshan announcement about the 1991 Gulf War. The war leads to burning oil wells in Iraq, which triggers a major fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu. That’s where Kara’s story begins. Bharathan, the cop played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, is chasing a string of bank robberies done by Dhanush’s character. Kara had left his thieving past behind, but the crisis pushes him into survival mode. Now he’s fighting on all sides, the cops are after him, and people around him don’t believe he’s changed.
Alfred Prakash co-wrote the film with director Vignesh Raja, and the trailer hints at a tense, emotional ride. GV Prakash Kumar is handling the music for Kara, continuing his combo with Dhanush after Idli Kadai in 2025. Dhanush has also penned lyrics for the soundtrack, along with Yuga Bharathi, Uma Devi, Arunraja Kamaraj, Karthik Netha, and Arivu. The technical team looks solid too. Theni Eswar is the cinematographer, Sreejith Sarang is on edit, Mayapandi handles art, and Dinesh Kasi takes care of action.
Kara is backed by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International, with Kushmita Ganesh as co-producer. With a wartime backdrop, Dhanush in a gritty role, and Vignesh Raja directing, Kara is shaping up to be a raw action drama with strong emotions. The film also features Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. All eyes are now on the April 30 release to see how Dhanush’s Kara fights this crisis on screen.
