Mohanlal Drishyam 2 Collects Under ₹5 Lakh in its Re Release

Drishyam 2 RR Bombed At BO

The Drishyam 2 re-release has failed at the Kerala box office, with the Mohanlal starrer struggling to pull audiences to theatres. Despite the franchise’s strong reputation and loyal fan base, the theatrical re-run did not create the expected buzz. The poor response is surprising, given the massive success of Drishyam Part 1, which was an industry hit in Mollywood and set a high benchmark for the series. The re-release was planned ahead of the next installment, but the move did not convert into box office numbers.

OTT availability is a key reason for the low theatre footfall for Drishyam 2. The film released on Amazon Prime Video during the COVID period, letting most viewers watch it at home. With no added footage or fresh theatrical appeal, audiences saw little reason to revisit it on the big screen. Even hardcore fans showed limited interest because the content felt familiar.

The Drishyam 2 re-release on April 10 collected under ₹5 lakh across Kerala, failing to cover basic distribution and theatre rental costs. For context, recent re-releases like Athadu 4K earned ₹58 lakh on Day 1 without any special occasion, showing how Drishyam 2 missed franchise goodwill.

The abysmal collections mark a clear box office setback for the Drishyam franchise, known for strong theatrical runs. Widespread OTT access combined with a lack of new content proved lethal for the re-release. Still, this performance is unlikely to affect Drishyam 3. The third installment was postponed to May 21, 2026, due to the Middle East crisis. Drishyam 3 buzz remains strong among fans and trade circles. Expected to be the final chapter, the film carries high stakes with Jeethu Joseph returning as director.
