Dhurandhar 2 Box Office Hit by IPL After Record-Breaking Run

Dhurandhar 2 Wave Hit By IPL

Dhurandhar: The Revenge, also known as Dhurandhar 2, has been on a record-breaking spree at the box office, exceeding trade expectations right from its premiere shows. The Ranveer Singh-starrer spy thriller has been delivering strong numbers, even in its Telugu version. Despite a slight dip in evening and night shows during the second weekend, the film maintained its strong momentum, registering a record second weekend for Bollywood.

However, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started to take its toll on the film's box office collections. Monday's numbers showed a sharp decline, largely attributed to the IPL, which kicked off last Saturday. The tournament has affected occupancy and evening show footfalls, a trend commonly seen during major cricket events.

Despite the IPL headwind, Dhurandhar 2 is still on a historic box office run, having collected over ₹877 crore in India and ₹1,392 crore worldwide. To surpass the benchmarks set by Pushpa 2: The Rule and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, the film needs to collect another ₹400 crore. This requires a steady run over the next few weeks, which might be challenging with IPL matches dominating prime-time slots.

The film's success can be attributed to its strong word-of-mouth and audience interest, with repeat viewership, particularly in urban centers and multiplex chains. Dhurandhar 2 has become the highest-grossing Indian film in North America, beating Baahubali 2, and is currently the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film ever. As Dhurandhar 2 continues its box office run, it will be interesting to see how it navigates the IPL challenge and whether it can achieve its ambitious targets.
