India wins T-20 World Cup, crushing New Zealand

T-20 WC 2026: India Creates History

Men in Blue created history by winning the T-20 World Cup 2026 in the final contested at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat today. India became the first team to successfully defend its title in T-20 worldcup and also became the first team to win the world cup as a host. Apart from it, India for the first time defeated New Zealand in a T-20 world cup match. India thus won the T-20 World Cup thrice, under Dhoni's leadership in the inaugural edition and the last time under the leadership of Rohit Sharma,

New Zealand, after winning the toss, put India in. India batted like as if it is not having any brakes. Abishek Sharma blasted when it mattered the most and scored a 19 ball 50 and Sanju Samson continued from where he left in the last two matches. Abhishek got out for 52 (21) balls and he was out with the scoreboard reading 98 in 7 overs. Ishan Kishan joined Sanju and both stepped up the accelerator to the fifth gear. Ishan got out for 54 (25) balls and before that Samson got out for 89 (46) when he looked set for a blistering  100.

When Ishan and Samson were batting, India looked set for over 280-300 score. But Neesham removed both of them along with Surya Kumar Yadav and this put brakes on the scoring. It was left for Shivam Dube 26 (8) in the end to power India past 250. India ended the innings with 255/5 in 20 overs.

New Zealannd started briskly scoring 30 in two overs with Seifert doing bulk of the scoring. However, they kept losing wickets at the other end with Axar (3/27), Bumrah (4/13), Hardik (1/36), Varun (1/39), and others going on a wicket hunt. New Zealand got allout for just 159 i 19 overs . Ishan had a dream night in the field, too with three important catches. India crushed Newzealand by 96 runs.
