Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has confirmed that a sequel to the hit film F1: The Movie is in the works. The first film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, was released last year and became a massive box-office success, grossing over $630 million worldwide. Hamilton, who produced the film alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, revealed that the script for the sequel is already being worked on.
Lewis Hamilton shared that the team had their first meeting towards the end of last year, discussing different ideas and directions for the script. "We are already working on the first script," Hamilton said ahead of the Australian Grand Prix. The first film had a significant impact on audiences, and Hamilton reflected on its success, saying, "It's been amazing to see how big an impact it's had, how many people have loved the movie."
Lewis Hamilton continues to receive messages from people who are just now watching it, and how it's opened their eyes to what this sport is about. When asked if he would consider acting in the sequel, Hamilton said he prefers to stay behind the scenes. "I don't really have a lot of desire to be on camera, and I've had loads of opportunities to be in movies," he said. "I really liked the idea of being in the background. It was an amazing experience, and it's so much more enjoyable, I think, than actually being on camera".
Hamilton and his team are taking their time to ensure the sequel meets their expectations. "Sequels often aren't always great, but we've got a great team, got a great cast, great writer. So I'm not concerned about that," he said.
