Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has completed the script for his adaptation of Karna, with AR Rahman composing five or six songs for the film. The project, which has been in the works for six years, is currently on pause, but Rakeysh is optimistic about its future. Initially Suriya was supposed to play the role but due to delay he dropped the project.
He described Vyasa's Mahabharat as "dramatic" and praised the original version as a "beautiful story" full of "grey matter". Rakeysh interprets Karna as a character empowered by solar power, rather than just the biological son of the sun. He sees Karna as a tragic figure, neglected and abandoned throughout his life, and plans to portray this in the film.
Karna will be released in two parts, similar to Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash. Rakeysh has been working on the project for six years, taking time to understand Vyasa's Mahabharat.
He drew parallels between Karna's struggle against caste discrimination and historical issues like social exclusion in cricket. The film promises to be an epic adaptation of the classic tale, with stunning visuals and music. We have to see who will take up the iconic character.
