Madras HC Sets Verdict Date in Jana Nayagan Censor Row

Latest Update In Jana Nayagan Court Row

The Madras High Court will deliver its verdict on January 27, 2026, regarding the censor certificate issue for Vijay's film Jana Nayagan. The film, which is Vijay's last outing before entering politics, has faced certification delays since December 2025.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) appealed against Justice PT Asha's order to grant a U/A 16+ certificate to the movie. The CBFC argued that the examining committee's recommendation for 14 cuts was an intermediary step, and the chairperson is yet to make a final decision.

Vijay has reportedly refused to accept cuts to the film's political dialogues, citing it as the soul of the movie. The film's release, initially scheduled for January 9, has been postponed pending the court's decision.
