Vicky Kaushal is reportedly reprising his role as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill from Uri: The Surgical Strike in Dhurandhar 2, alongside Ranveer Singh. This move is said to be part of director Aditya Dhar's plan to build a Dhurandhar cinematic universe, connecting his past success with Uri to the new film.
The production has brought in star power to compensate for Akshaye Khanna's reduced role as Rehman Dakait, who will appear in brief flashbacks. Dhurandhar 2 ensemble cast includes R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal, and is set primarily in Pakistan. According to insiders, Vicky's character from Uri, set in 2016, will be introduced in Dhurandhar 2, although it's unclear if he'll cross paths with Ranveer's character.
The cameo includes action sequences, and Vicky reportedly shot his scenes last year, keeping them under wraps until the first installment's release. The inclusion of Major Vihaan Shergill seems to be a plot device for potential sequels, with Aditya Dhar planning to construct an interlinked Dhurandhar universe.
Vicky Kaushal is said to be one of Dhar's favourite actors, and the director was willing to set the stage for a potential spinoff. Dhurandhar 2 has become one of the most anticipated projects in the Indian action genre, thanks to its cast and Dhar's technical accuracy. Dhurandhar 2 is slated to hit the screens on March 19.
