Vrusshabha Turned Biggest Flop In Mohanlal Career

Vrusshabha Turned Colossal Disaster

The film industry is no stranger to hits and flops, and 2025 has seen its fair share of disappointments. One film that stands out as the biggest flop of the year is Mohanlal's Vrusshabha, a Malayalam epic drama that tanked at the box office despite high expectations. The film was expected to break records and continue success stream for Mohanlal, but it earned only Rs 2 crore worldwide, causing a loss of 97% of its Rs 70 crore budget.

Vrusshabha was released on December 25, 2025, and its poor performance was evident from the start. The film earned just Rs 60 lakh domestically on its opening day and failed to recover, even on the weekend. By the 6th day, it had earned only Rs 1.5 crore in India and $30K overseas. Exhibitors pulled down the film within a week, and it failed to complete a week in theatres.

Mohanlal's recent box office trajectory has been perplexing, with high profile disasters like Malaikottai Vaaliban (2024) Barroz (2024) and Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham (2021). However, he has also delivered blockbusters like L2 Empuraan (2025) and Thudaarum (2025), in the same year proving his box office pull is intact when the content clicks.

The failure of Vrusshabha highlights the importance of a strong script in the modern era of Malayalam cinema. Vrusshabha's poor performance is a reminder that even big name stars like Mohanlal can't salvage a weak script.
