Padayappa Re Release Turns Superhit

The re-release of Padayappa, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, has been a phenomenal success, drawing massive crowds, especially in Tamil Nadu, where footfalls rivaled a new tier 2 movie. In its first weekend, the film raked in ₹8.5 crore gross in Tamil Nadu, ₹1.5 crore from the rest of India, and ₹2 crore from overseas, totaling ₹12 crore worldwide. One of the biggest numbers for a re-released film.

Celebrating Rajinikanth’s 75th birthday, Padayappa (1999) hit theaters again and scored an excellent opening. The action drama started strong with ₹4 crore worldwide on day one and impressively maintained momentum, closing the weekend with ₹11 crore globally. In India, it grossed *₹9.5–10 crore, including ₹8.5 crore in Tamil Nadu remarkable for a re-release.

Directed by K.S. Ravikumar and produced by Arunachala Cine Creations, Padayappa is a Tamil cinema landmark with A.R. Rahman’s iconic score. Featuring Ramya Krishnan and Soundarya alongside Rajinikanth, it was the penultimate release of legend Sivaji Ganesan. The film’s powerful storytelling and performances are still celebrated.
