Vaa Vaathiyaar release postponed

Vaa Vaathiyaar release stalled

Karthi's Vaa Vaathiyar directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy which was supposed to release on12 December 2025 stands postponed due to financial issues. The film was supposed to release even in Telugu as Annagaru Vastaaru.

Madras High Court stayed the release of the film as Studio Green’s KE Gnanavel Raja, failed to clear the unresolved debt of Rs 10.35 crore, which, with accumulated interest, has reached Rs 21.78 crore. This sum was borrowed by KE Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green (who produced Vaa Vaathiyaar) from businessman Arjunlal Sundardas, who was declared insolvent by the Madras High Court in 2014. The official assignee managing Sundardas' assets sought recovery of the amount and requested an interim injunction against the film’s release.

The division bench rejected Gnanavel Raja's offer to pay Rs 3.75 crore within 24 hours and offered property documents for the balance.  Rejecting the offer, The Judge said “Sufficient time and multiple opportunities have already been granted. The producer had misused the extensions and shown no serious intent to settle the dues. Creditors have been waiting for years to recover their money.”

The official court order said, “Until the entire debt is fully repaid, ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ shall not be released in theatres, OTT platforms, or any other medium.” This ruling has effectively cancelled the much-anticipated December 12 release.

Prathyangira Films which is presenting the film in Telugu posted ".@StudioGreen2 production has informed us that #VaaVaathiyaar (Tamil) and #AnnagaruVostaru (Telugu) have been postponed from their planned release on December 12 due to unforeseen circumstances. The new release date will be announced soon by the team."
