The upcoming film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Dutt, is facing legal trouble ahead of its release on December 5. Naureen Aslam, the widow of Pakistani police officer Chaudhary Aslam, has threatened legal action against the film's makers, objecting to her husband's portrayal in the trailer. She took offense to a line describing Aslam as "born from the devil and a jinn," saying it's disrespectful to her husband and his mother.
Aslam, known for his bravery against terror and criminal gangs in Karachi, was assassinated in 2014. The film's trailer gives a glimpse into Karachi's infamous Lyari area, featuring Sanjay Dutt as Aslam, Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, and R Madhavan as Indian spy master Ajay Sanyal.
Separately, Major Mohit Sharma's family has filed a lawsuit against Dhurandhar, alleging the film exploits their son's life without permission. Director Aditya Dhar clarified that the film isn't based on Major Sharma's life, stating, "If we do make a biopic on Mohit sir, we'll do it with full consent and consultation with the family".
Dhurandhar is an espionage thriller inspired by true events, featuring a star studded cast. Ranveer Singh presented the film's first love song at the IFFI closing ceremony, calling it a "big visual spectacle" that could put Indian cinema on the global map. Dhurandhar to hit the screens on December 5 amidst huge expectations.
