Rana Daggubati Reveals Camera Used in Pathala Bhairavi and Mayabazar Featured in Kaantha
Actor‑producer Rana Daggubati disclosed that the historic Mitchell camera employed for the iconic films Pathala Bhairavi and Mayabazar is present on the sets of his upcoming movie Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan. Speaking to Mana Stars, Rana mentioned that his father borrowed the camera from Vauhini Studios, noting it isn’t used for principal photography but appears as a prop within the film within a film concept.
Cinematographer Marcus Bartley’s Mitchell Camera, celebrated for its role in Mayabazar one of Indian cinema’s greatest works is thus a special highlight of Kaantha and is showcased in the trailer. Rana added that Dulquer Salmaan was meticulous about the car selection, even specifying the tyres, reflecting his passion for automobiles.
He remarked, “He was very thorough about it and constantly checked what car comes in a frame, as he has a keen interest in cars.” The narrative follows an ego clash between a film star (Dulquer) and his mentor‑director (Samuthirakani), with Bhagyashri Borse playing an important role.
The project is a joint production of Wayfarer Films (Dulquer) and Spirit Media (Rana), blending classic cinematic heritage with contemporary storytelling. The film’s unique use of the vintage Mitchell camera underscores its thematic focus on legacy and rivalry in the film industry. Kaantha is scheduled for a theatrical release on Friday, November 14.
