Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced a new rule regarding ticket price hikes in the Telugu film industry. According to the CM, the Congress government will issue a Government Order (GO) to allow ticket price increases for big movies only if 20% of the movie's income is given to film workers. This move aims to ensure that technicians, junior artists, and daily-wage labourers receive a fair share of the success of high-grossing films.
The Chief Minister also unveiled several initiatives for the welfare of film industry workers, including the establishment of a corporate-standard school to provide free education for their children. The government will allocate ₹10 crore to the film workers' welfare fund and extend the Arogyasri health insurance scheme to all cine workers. Revanth Reddy emphasized that Hyderabad will be developed as a world-class film hub, on par with Hollywood, and appealed to producers to prefer Telangana as a shooting destination.
The government plans to construct the Film Workers' Association Bhavan and provide land for a Cine Fighters Training Centre. The Telugu film industry will be featured in the 'Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document' to promote Hyderabad as a global film production center. Revanth Reddy also announced the revival of the annual film awards, named after the balladeer Gaddar, to honor excellence in cinema.
The producers' council has accepted some of the workers' demands and hiked daily wages after government intervention. The new rule on ticket price hikes is expected to benefit thousands of workers in Tollywood. The government will finalize further welfare initiatives for cine workers in November, with Dil Raju tasked with studying their living conditions and submitting a report.
