Suriya's highly anticipated film Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, is currently awaiting a release date. Initially planned for a Diwali 2025 release, the film has been pushed to Summer 2026 due to pending non theatrical deals. The team is considering multiple release options, including the Republic Day weekend, a February release, and an early summer release, with a Pongal release being one of the top contenders.
However, facing competition with other big films at Pongal 2026 will be a challenge for Suriya's Karuppu. Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi have already been announced for a Pongal release, and the clash between these two films is expected to be intense.
Additionally, Prabhas and Maruthi's The Raja Saab Tamil version will also be released during Pongal, making it a crowded release schedule. The Karuppu team might be hoping that one of the Tamil films will be postponed, allowing them to fill the slot.
Karuppu boasts an impressive cast, including Trisha, Shivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Indrans, and Natty, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and music composed by Sai Abhayankkar.
