Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 has defied expectations with its strong box office performance in its first week. Despite initial low pre buzz, the film's positive word of mouth led to impressive collections on the first weekend and steady numbers on weekdays. The spiritual action collected around ₹115 crore in the next three weekdays, promising a long run at the box office.
The film's collections across territories have been impressive, with Karnataka estimated to gross around ₹120 crore, Telugu states ₹75 crore, Kerala ₹31 crore, Tamil Nadu ₹35 crore, and North India ₹120 crore, totaling ₹375 crore in India. With an overseas gross of around ₹70 crore, the worldwide total stands at approximately ₹445 crore.
Kantara Chapter 1 needs a bigger second weekend to cross the ₹600 crore mark. At the current trend, the film is expected to settle at around ₹700 crore in its full run, although a strong run could take it near the ₹800 crore milestone. Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the epic period action film has already crossed the ₹300 crore threshold in India in its first week.
The second highest grossing Kannada film of all time, Kantara Chapter 1, has shown remarkable staying power at the box office. With collections dipping during weekdays but still holding strong, the film brought in ₹31.5 crore and ₹34.25 crore on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Given the success of the 2022 film Kantara, which grossed ₹407.82 crore worldwide, it will be interesting to see how much Kantara Chapter 1 will earn in its lifetime.
