Kantara Chapter 1 Faces Potential Ban in Kerala Over Profit Sharing Dispute

Kantara 2 May Face Ban In Kerala

Rishab Shetty's upcoming film, Kantara: Chapter 1, is embroiled in a controversy that might affect its release in Kerala. The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) is at odds with Prithviraj Productions, the distributor, over profit-sharing terms. FEUOK has expressed concerns over the distributor's demand for a 55% share of the net box office collections for the first two weeks, which exceeds the standard 50% share for other films in Kerala.

The crux of the issue lies in the distributor's demand for a higher profit share compared to the usual terms. FEUOK president K Vijayakumar argues that Malayalam film producers typically receive a 30-40% share when their films are distributed outside Kerala, making the 55% demand seem unreasonable. The union has made it clear that they won't change their stance unless Prithviraj Productions initiates discussions.

FEUOK executive member Bobby clarified that there's no official ban on the film's release, but discussions are ongoing regarding revenue-sharing terms. If an agreement isn't reached, it might impact the film's screening in Kerala. Kantara: Chapter 1 is set to release on October 2, 2025, and fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
