Vetri Maaran, one of the highly regarded directors from Tamil Cinema, has announced that he is quitting producing films. The filmmaker has decided to shut down his production house, Grass Root Film Company, after the release of his upcoming film "Bad Girl". Vetri Maaran stated that being a filmmaker gives him freedom, but being a producer puts a lot of pressure on him. He has produced many movies, including the national award-winning film "Kaaka Muttai".
"Bad Girl", directed by Varsha Bharath, has been facing heavy criticism for its "offensive depiction of children" and teenagers. The film has been embroiled in controversies, leading to issues with the censor board. Vetri Maaran mentioned that the film had to go through a revising committee to get a U/A 16+ certificate. He added that being a producer is a big challenge and decided to close down his production house after "Bad Girl".
Vetri Maaran is currently working with Simbu on a film and will start the shoot of "Vada Chennai 2" with Dhanush after that project. "Bad Girl" is his last film as a producer, and he has decided to focus on direction. The film has received the NETPAC Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025.
"Bad Girl" is slated for release on September 5, alongside Sivakarthikeyan's "Madharaasi" and Bala's "Gandhi Kannadi". The film stars Anjali Sivaraman, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, and Saranya Ravichandran. Despite the controversies, audiences are eagerly waiting for the film's release.
