Madras High Court Orders Against Piracy For Coolie

Madras HC Action Against Piracy

The Madras High Court has ordered 36 Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block "rogue websites" from streaming pirated versions of the upcoming film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy granted an interim injunction on August 11, 2025, restraining these ISPs from facilitating copyright infringement. The court noted that failing to grant the injunction would cause "irreparable injury" to the production house, Sun TV Network Limited.

The ISPs affected by the order include major providers such as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Bharti Airtel, Hathway Cable, Tata Communications, Vodafone, and Reliance Communications. Additionally, the production house has secured similar injunctions against five cable television networks in Chennai. Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is set to release on August 14, 2025, and features a star-studded cast, including Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan. This marks the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The court's order aims to protect the film's commercial interests and prevent online piracy. With the combination of a celebrated director, powerful cast, and superstar Rajinikanth's charisma, expectations for Coolie are high across India. The film's release is eagerly anticipated, and this legal action is seen as a crucial step in safeguarding its success.
