Ramayana Is The Most Expensive Franchise In Indian Cinema

Ramayana Whopping Budget

The recently released announcement video of Nitesh Tiwari's epic film Ramayana: The Introduction has generated immense buzz, and now, reports suggest that the film has a staggering budget of ₹1,600 crore. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol, among others. According to sources, the budget is divided between two parts, with Ramayana Part 1 costing ₹900 crore and Part 2 costing ₹700 crore.

The producer, Namit Malhotra, is treating Ramayana as a project of pride, and the investment in assets and world creation for Part 1 has been substantial. The source close to the producer revealed that they are confident about recovering their investment and making profits by targeting a global audience with this visually spectacular project. With the first part set to release on Diwali 2026 and the second part on Diwali 2027, expectations are high, especially given Malhotra's association with the Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG.

The film's budget has reportedly doubled from the initial estimate of ₹835 crore, making it the most expensive film franchise in Indian cinema. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli's next film, SSMB 29, is expected to be the most expensive single-part film with an estimated budget of ₹1,000 crore. Ramayana's massive budget and star-studded cast make it one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema.
