HC stays the OTT release of Bhool Chuk Maaf.Raj Kumar Rao's Bhool Chuk Maaf makers decided to skip the theatrical release citing the prevailing condition in the country following the situation in border alongside Pakistan, planned to go for the OTT release.
However PVR Inox approached High Court against the decision of the Maddock Films and following this High Court stayed the release of the film on OTT. Bombay High Court gave an interim order in favour of the PVR Inox. The court posted the hearing fvor 16 June 2025.
The court also dismissed claims by co-defendants, including Amazon Prime Video, who argued that no direct contractual relationship (privity) existed between them and PVR INOX.
With the court’s order, Maddock Films and its associates are prohibited from releasing the film on any OTT or digital platform in India until the full eight-week theatrical holdback period from the date of first release has passed.
An Insider shares “The investment in Bhool Chuk Maaf is made by Maddock, and PVRInox have no stake to be a part of decision-making process.” He added “No discussions were initiated with the exhibition community, and the release was pulled back after opening the advance bookings, resulting in a loss to the exhibitors. They backed out from the commitment of theatrical release, leading to a last-minute chaos in programming.”
