Hyderabad,Nov 18: The State Government-run Apgenco has received the India Power Award-2009 for overall utility and performance in thermal generation.Apgenco managing director K.Vijayanand and Director (Thermal & Projects) C.Radha Krishna received the Award from Union Minister of State for Power, Bharatsinh Solanki in New Delhi on Tuesday.This is the second consecutive year in which Apgenco has bagged this award.The Council of Power Utilities and KW conferences Pvt Ltd which has instituted the India Power Awards gives the awards in recognition of the achievements and contributions of organizations in the power sectors every year.

Explaining the factors contributing to the high performance, K.Vijayanand said the continuous encouragement from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the good work turned out by the engineers and O & M staff of Apgenco have helped achieve this award.Regular review meetings at the headquarters and at the plant have ensured good performance for the year, he added.In 2008-09, Apgenco thermal power stations achieved a plant load factor of 86.7 per cent against an all India average of 77.2 per cent and stood third in the country amongst the public sector undertakings.

Apgenco has generated 33521 MU since the inception surpassing the previous record of 33323 MU achieved in 2007-08.In view of the future power needs of the state,Apgenco has taken up massive capacity addition programme of 18595 MW by completing 22 new power projects.
